The Simulation Innovation and Modeling Center (SIMCenter) offers unique programs to prepare undergraduates for simulation and modeling work. Our new collaborative internship model allows students to continue building the CAE skills they developed during their summer internship into the fall and spring semesters.

How it Works-

Summer Term

Undergraduate students typically begin internships during the summer before their third or fourth year. While immersed in company culture, students leverage their knowledge of CAE software to pick up new skills on the job. 

At the end of the summer term, students turn their focus back to classes in hopes of earning a subsequent internship or post-graduate opportunity.

Our internship program aims to bridge the gap between coursework and industry knowledge, building on students’ current knowledge of cutting-edge tools to prepare the next generation of engineers.

The Academic Year and Our Program

SIMCenter restructures the traditional internship format by allowing students to continue working with a company after their summer term. To deliver a personalized experience, SIMCenter pairs students with research staff members as on-site mentors. These researchers are thrilled to support the students’ progress, help troubleshoot, and train students on state-of-the-art software.

Dedicated to fostering the relationship between students and companies, SIMCenter invites company representatives to two recruiting events during the year.

One of the major benefits of involvement is the opportunity for motivated students to engage with leading companies. Additionally, company support helps SIMCenter achieve its mission to develop students with advanced CAE skills, preparing them for their careers.

The Details

Funding for the 2020-2021 academic year, the base cost is $15,000 per intern. This includes costs for:

  • Administrative support
  • Student's pay
  • Training & development
  • POM costs
  • Networking events
  • Overhead
  • Technical support of research staff

  • Intern equipment and software are not included

    Due to the nature of research and the type of software license required, most companies prefer to issue the intern a company-owned laptop with relevant software. The student can then access the company's network via VPN through the university's wireless network.
