Powered by curiosity, Jagruti Patil finds the perfect fit at OSU

Hailing from Pune in India, Jagruti grew up equal parts curious and creative. A steadfast reader and practicing artist, she always wanted to be a humanitarian.

Jagruti started her collegiate career at the College of Engineering Pune to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. She gained valuable vehicle design and

manufacturing experience while working on vehicle dynamics as the Suspension subsystem lead for her college’s Formula SAE team. It was here that she became aware of how ‘Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems’ and ‘Connected and Automated vehicles’ have been at the forefront of innovation in the last decade. This realization led her to choose Advanced Automotive Systems as her research area at OSU.

While working for two years in value analysis and value engineering at Eaton Corporation— a power management company, she realized the dire need to cope with environmental concerns and meet the growing demand for intellectual advancement.

To broaden her skillset, she chose to pursue a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University. With access to a variety of research projects, phenomenal faculties, and well-equipped labs, Jagruti knew that she would thrive as a Buckeye. Her additional hands-on experience from a John Deere internship paired with her determination to add value to the field, she joined SIMCenter as a Graduate Research Associate. Currently, she is working on a project that involves design and development of V2X solutions towards connected and smart mobility with the help of Computer Vision techniques and Data Analysis.

In her free time, she loves to play sports, read books, sketch, and paint. As she reflects on her time at Ohio State, she attributes her success to three key lessons: time management, punctuality, and self-reliance. She is grateful for having good friends and colleagues at OSU who have supported and stood by her during her hard times in this new journey. She appreicates Louis Pasteur’s quote, “chance favors the prepared mind” and encourages younger students to learn from successes and failures and to be prepared when chances arrive.

Looking forward, she's leaning towards pursuing autonomous opportunities within the automotive field or a doctorate degree. Regardless of which path she takes, she's confident that her experiences at Ohio State have prepared her for what lies ahead.
