Experimental fluid dynamics have long fascinated Dr. Zhenyu Wang. Dr. Wang specializes in with experimental fluid dynamics applied to aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and combustion.

A permanent research scientist at Ohio State SIMCenter, Dr. Wang led projects aimed at reducing the drag of heavy-duty vehicles, simulating of mechanical aortic valves, and simulating structural, and acoustic simulation of dishwasher noise and vibration. Working with with ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and MATLAB, he is an incredible asset to the team.

One recent venture consisted of modeling the combustion processes of bernzomatic torches for a manufacturing company. With key customer requirements like heat delivery and flame controllability as his standards, Dr. Wang virtually modeled and simulated the performance of the commercially sold hand-held torch. A successful correlation was observed between the simulations and the experimental validations, indicating the potential feasibility of virtual product development, which would reduce the company’s reliance on actual experimental validation and thereby result in saving time and money.

If his past achievements are any indication, the coming years will see Dr. Wang continue to make important contributions to his field, while also serving as a pillar for his associates at the SIMCenter.
