Canova, Marcello

Biography

Marcello Canova is Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Ohio State University and Associate Director for Graduate and Continuing Education at the Center for Automotive Research. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Parma (Italy) in 2002 and 2006, respectively.

Dr. Canova is a 2016 NSF CAREER Award recipient, and he has earned the Kappa Delta Distinguished Faculty Award (2011), the SAE Vincent Bendix Automotive Electronics Engineering Award (2011), the Lumley Interdisciplinary Research Award (2012, 2020), the SAE Ralph Teetor Educational Award (2016), and the Michael J. Moran Award for Excellence in Teaching (2017). He has published over 150 articles in journals and conference proceedings.

Expertise

Dr. Canova’s expertise lies in the energy optimization and management of ground vehicle propulsion systems, including internal combustion engines, hybrid-electric drivetrains, energy storage systems, waste heat recovery and thermal management. In these areas, he leads a number of projects funded by, among others, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, the National Science Foundation, ARPA-E and the US Department of Energy.
